Hosanna Song from 'Ek Deewana Tha' sparks protest from Christian organisation

New Delhi, 20 January 2012: The song 'Hosanna' from the upcoming bollywood movie Ek Deewana Tha has raised protest from a christian organisation named  Christian Secular Forum (CSF). According to the organisation, the word Hosanna cannot be used as a phrase in a song. Hosanna means 'Glory to God' and is a prayer in the Bible and is sacred to Christians and Jews.

The lyrics of the songs is penned by Javed Akhtar and the music is composed by Academy award winner AR Rahman. The songs has been immensely popular among the youth by now.

AR Rahman in a press statement clarified his views on the controversy as follows:
“I had spent several months doing research before composing and writing the songs for the film. I had also consulted friends, who are Christian, about the usage of the word ‘Hosanna’.”

The movie Ek Deewana Tha directed by Gautham Menon, is the remake of the 2010 Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa which had the same director and music director. The term 'Hosanna' was also used in the  song in the tamil version too, which raised no criticism.
