Cricket to be included in Olympics in 2020

New Delhi, 15 January 2012: The International Cricket Council (ICC) considers T20 cricket format to be included as an event in the Olympics soon. Cricket, Test format and ODI format, eventhough is played globaly was not included as an event in the Olympics games. Cricket has been played only once at the Olympics, in 1900, although it was not officially recognised as an Olympic sport until 12 years later.

Now with the advent of the shorter T20 format, it has become easier to be  included in the Olympics. The International Cricket Council (ICC), the sport's world governing body, was officially recognised as a federation by the International Olympic Committee in 2010, and the ICC can bid to join the 2020 Games, said ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat.
