'Sony Ericsson' to become 'Sony' and to focus on smartphones

New Delhi, 8 December 2011: Leading mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson will  rebrand itself as 'Sony' removing the Ericsson tag. The company plans to focus on making only smartphones from now on.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications was established in the year 2001 when Sony Corporation from Japan partnered with Swedish telecommunication equipment maker Ericsson. In the years Sony Ericsson secured the fourth largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world which was later down to 6th position.

Sony Ericsson flagship models included the Walkman series which offered good sound quality and music friendly features and also Cyber-shot series with good camera abilities. Currently the Xperia branded phones are the pick of the smartphones from the company.
