Samsung becomes world's biggest smartphone manufacturer

Bangalore, 6 November 2011: Samsung Electronics has become the world's biggest smart phone manufacturer. Samsung overtook Apple which was leading the Smartphone league for the past few years.

Samsung now has a stake of 20% of the smartphone market around the world followed by Apple with 15%, Nokia 14%, HTC 11% and RIM Blackberry 10%.

Samsung which was not a popular brand five years ago, came to the mainstream with the Google's flagship mobile OS Android. Samsung offers the Android versions in its popular Galaxy range of smartphones which is the number one choice for Android users. Nokia which was the leading mobile manufacturer before fell to the third spot since it did not offer any of the latest OS including Android.

However Nokia plans to launch new phones with Microsoft Windows OS for smartphones soon.
