Renault Pulse small car unveiled


New Delhi, 31 October 2011: Renault India has unveiled its first hatchback car in the country, the Renault Pulse.

The new car was shown to the media in connection with the inaugural F1 Indian Grandprix held at New Delhi yesterday.

The first small car from Renault is basically a rebadged Nissan Micra hatchback which exists in the Indian market for over an year. The Renault Pulse is a redesigned Micra with an aggressive front grille, new headlamps, taillamps, etc. However the interior of the car is same as that of the Nissan Micra. Japanese car maker Nissan and French company Renault is in partnership abroad.

The Renault Pulse will be available only in diesel and will be positioned as a premium hatchback in the lines of VW Polo, Hyundai i20 etc. The car will be equipped with a 1.5 diesel engine which produces 6.5 bhp.

Renault first offering to India was the entry level sedan Renault Logan with partnership with Mahindra and Mahindra. The car was an instant hit among the Indian families and also the taxi market. The company later sold off the Logan brand and car to Mahindra and has launched two premium offerings, the  Renault Fluence Sedan and the Koleos Crossover. Renault has announced its 2012 launch lineup which includes a low cost SUV Duster and a C-segment sedan.

The company doesnt have much dealership and after sales service presence in India, and is expected to utilise the Nissan after sales and service for its small car.

The official launch of the car will be held during the Auto Expo, New Delhi in January 2012.
