Sensex, Nifty hits 52-week low on fear of Recession 2011


Mumbai, 5 August 2011: Indian Stock exchange indices Sensex and Nifty hit its one year low today on the fears of the second recession waiting to hit the United States.

During the intra-day trade Sensex once hit below 17000 by shedding 702 points. This was similar to the level reached during May 14, 2010.

However during the afternoon stage the indices recovered and closed as follows
SENSEX 17305.87 -387.31
NIFTY 5211.25 -120.55

Sectors such as IT, metals, realty, financials, oil and gas and capital goods was most affected today.
