Baichung Bhutia retires from International Football


Kolkata, 24 August 2011: Baichung Bhutia one of the greatest footballers for India in the recent times has retired from International football.

Bhutia aged 31 has captained India in many International tournaments. Bhutia debuted in club football in India in his 16th age by playing for East Bengal Calcutta. Bhaichung Bhutia has played for Indian clubs such as JCT Mills, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan etc. Currently he plays for United Sikkim FC. Bhutia has played in the English league for Bury FC in 1999 when he became the first Indian footballer to play professional football in Europe.

Bhutia became India's youngest ever goal scorer when he scored in his international debut for India against Uzbekistan in the 1995 Nehru Cup at 19 years of age. Bhutia is the first Indian football player to play in 100 international football matches for India. He has also secured the Padma Shri title in 2008.
