Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple may become the Richest Temple in the World

Trivandrum, 2 July 2011(Trivandrum.co.in): Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Trivandrum has become the richest temple in India, after the treaure in the form of gold jewelleries, coins, idols and other antiques has been found in its underground chamber.

Treasure worth more than Rs 50,000 crore has been recovered from the temple after a special panel appointed by Supreme Court started its operation to account the assets in the temple five days back.

The treasure inlcude gold coins, gold chains, precious stones like emerald, gems, diamonds, crowns and royal ornaments.



The temple had six chambers of unacccounted gold and one chamber is yet to be opened. Two of these chambers was last opened 136 years ago. The ornaments and other wealth dates back to the time of His Highness Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma who ruled Travancore in the 18th century and also coins of East India company has been found. The value of Rs. 50,000 crores is taken without considering the antique value, and hence it is expected to be double after the final analysis.

Thirupathi Venkateswara Swami Temple of Andhra Pradesh is currently being regarded as the richest temple in India with a net worth of Rs. 50,000 crores. The temple has annual earning of around Rs. 650 crores too. This surpassed the earnings from Vatican shrine, the most visited church in the world. However if reports has to be believed, Sree Padmanabha temple, Trivandrum will now be the richest temple in India with a net worth of more than One Lakh crores.

After this discovery, steps has been made to increase the internal and external security of the temple.
