MS-DOS Operating Systems is 30 years old today

Kolkata, 28 July 2011: MSDOS or Microsoft Disk Operating System, the most popular operating system during the 1980s and in the mid 90s is 30 years old today.

On this day in 1981, Microsoft bought QDOS from Seattle Computer Products which later on became the MS-DOS operating system. The first edition, MS-DOS 1.0, was launched in 1982 for IBM PCs.


MS-DOS had eight versions during its lifetime till it was halted by Microsoft in 2000. It was the most popular operating systems when computers became popular and it paved the way to the rise of the Windows, the graphical user interface.
