Indian Railways MTicket: Book and Store Tickets via Mobile Phone

KOLKATA, 21 July 2011: Indian Railways has launched M-ticket or electronic ticket where the passenger can show the virtual copy of the ticket via his mobile phone, laptop or tablet while travelling.

The current ticketing system needs a physical paper copy of tickets to be kept while travelling in trains of Indian railways. This is applicable to both over the counter booked tickets and also e-tickets, i-tickets. A proper identity card was also necessary while travelling.

With the new system, the passenger can store a screenshot of the ticket and paste it on the laptop or tablets and show it to the ticket examiner.

For mobile phones, railways will introduce an M-ticket application which can be downloaded and can be used to display the ticket. The M-ticket application will be available from the Indian railways website from August onwards.
