Now Facebook can auto tag friends using Face recognition software

Facebook has announced Tag suggestions, which helps to tag multiple photos automatically.

Automatic tag suggestion is based on face recognition techology which groups photographs of the same person and makes available to the user.

Facebook in its blog posts explains how this feature works:

When you or a friend upload new photos, we use face recognition software—similar to that found in many photo editing tools—to match your new photos to other photos you're tagged in. We group similar photos together and, whenever possible, suggest the name of the friend in the photos.

This option can be turned off using Facebook privacy setting on Customize setting - Suggest photos of me to friends. This will turn off automatic tagging, but manual tagging of friends can be done by others.

This feature will be first available in the United States and will be rolled out to everybody soon.
