Most Expensive Painting in India

Bangalore, 22 June 2011: An untitled painting of renowned Indian artist Tyeb Mehta in the 'Kali' series has created the record for the most expensive painting sold in an online auction.

The progressive painting of Kali by Tyeb Mehta which was finished in 1998 fetched a whopping sum of Rs. 5.72 crore at an auction by Saffronart.

However the highest amount paid for a painting by an Indian artist is for SH Raza's Saurashtra which fetched Rs. 14.18 crore and the second being the painting by Mehta (Rickshaw puller) which went for Rs. 14 crore in an auction this year.
