Captain Dhoni to become Lt. Colonel MS Dhoni

New Delhi, 23 June 2011: Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has recommended to the defence ministry to award Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni the honorary rank of Lt Colonel.

Currently two cricketers Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar from the sports scene now holds the honorary ranks in Indian military services. Kapil Dev got honorary rank in Territorial Army in 2008 and Sachin Tendulkar is a honrary Group Captain in Indian Airforce.

Malayali actor Mohanlal was also conferred honorary Lt. Colonel rank in Territorial army last year.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is regarded as the most succesul Indian cricket team captain. Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, CB Series of 2007–08 , the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2008 and 2010 against Australia 2–0 and 2011 Cricket World Cup. The TIME magazine added him in its "Time 100" list of 100 most influential people of 2011.

An officer of the Territorial Army will have to undergo a six-month training at the Indian Military Academy. He will be get all facilities and ranks similar to any military officer.
