Best Asian Universities - Rankings 2011

Mumbai, 14 June 2011: The annual Asian University Rankings has been out. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Hong Kong has been ranked as the Best Asian University in the study followed by University of Hong Kong.

Universities from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Singapore has been ranked in top 100 list.

In Indian institutions IIT Kanpur is ranked topped at 36, whereas IIT Mumbai has been ranked 38 and IIT Guwahat is ranked 82. Other IITs - IIT Kanpur (36), IIT Delhi (37), IIT Madras (43), IIT Kharagpur (48), IIT Roorkee (56). University of Delhi is the only institution apart from the IITs which is ranked in the top 100.

The QS World University Rankings is a ranking of the world’s top 500 universities by Quacquarelli Symonds. In 2009, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) launched the QS Asian University Rankings in partnership with The Chosun Ilbo newspaper in Korea. It ranks the top 200 Asian universities and has now appeared twice. The University of Hong Kong was top in 2010 and The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology is currently the top in 2011.

The methodology for the rankings include six indicators - Academic peer review, Recruiter review, Faculty - student ratio, Citations per faculty and International orientation.
