World Book and Copyright Day 2011 on 23 April

World Book and Copyright Day (also known as International Day of the Book or World Book Days) is celebrated on 23 April of evey year. The day is organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright.

23 April is the birthdate of Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo and also the day of demise of Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso.

The Day was first celebrated in 1995 when the UNESCO's General Conference, held in Paris in 1995 decided to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors.
