GigaPan Time Machine - Explore Space and Time

A group of researchers from Carnegie Mellon University has created a Time Machine called GigaPan Time Machine using which the user can simultaneously explore space and time at extremely high resolutions. The GigaPan Time Machine has been created in collaboration with NASA Ames Intelligent Robotics Group and GigaPan Systems, with support from Google.

GigaPan Time Machine uses thousands of digital photographs made using sophisticated cameras which are stitched together to form an interactive panorama. GigaPan Time Machine enables simultaneous exploration of space and time across huge datasets.

An enabling technology for time-lapse GigaPans is a feature of the HTML5 language that has been incorporated into such browsers as Google's Chrome and Apple's Safari. HTML5, the latest revision of the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) standard that is at the core of the Internet, makes browsers capable of presenting video content without use of plug-ins such as Adobe Flash or Quicktime.

In the website of Gigapan http://timemachine.gigapan.org there are several Time Machine experiments available. Users can also create their own Time Machines and Warps there.
