Indian films for Oscar Awards Best Foreign Language Film - Facts

India started to send regular entries to the Best Foreign Language Film Award since 1957.

India has sent around 40 movies as nominess to the award but only three Indian films have received final nominations for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Unfortunately no Indian films has won the award till now.

Actor Kamal Haasan has been associated in the most Oscar entries from India. He received seven entries followed by Aamir Khan who received 5 entries (including Peepli Live in 2010), Satyajit Ray had 3 of his films as entries.


Most India's Oscar submissions were Bollywood hindi movies, followed by Tamil entries.

Mother India, Salaam Bombay, Lagaan were the three Indian movies which were selected for nominations for the final round of the Best Foreign Language Film Award of the Oscars.
