Tejaswini Sawant becomes first Indian woman to win World Championship shooting

Tejaswini Sawant of India became the first woman shooter of the country to win a gold medal at the World Championships.

Tejaswini won gold with a world-record equalling score of 597 in the 50m Rifle Prone event in Munich, Germany.

Ewa Joanna Nowakowska (Poland) won the silver medal and Olga Dovgun (Kazakhstan) secured the bronze medal.

Tejaswini Sawant aged 29 is from the Kolhapur, Maharashtra. She has also won 5 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 5 bronze medals at the national championships. She has also won the Women's 10m Air Rifle singles and Women's 10m Air Rifle Pairs events at the Commonwealth Games at Melbourne.
