Indian Public Distribution System to go online with AADHAAR

The Unique Identification Authority of India along with Department of Food and Public Distribution will start an online public distribution system (PDS - Ration shops).

The computerised system works by opening online food accounts using Aadhaar. Aadhaar is the new name of the Multipurpose National Identity Card program of the Unique Identification Authority of India.

A similar system with smart card-based delivery of essential commodities under the targeted PDS in Haryana and Chandigarh will be launched soon as a pilot project.
