Biggest Flops of Bollywood 2009-2010

1. Raavan
One of the biggest tragedies of 2010 Bollywood must be the Maniratnam movie Raavan. The movie has been sold for 110 crores to Reliance Big Pictures. But the box office verdict shows that the first three days collection of Raavan is around half of the collection recorded for the first three days of another big expectation of this year, ‘Kites’. Anyway the looser is Reliance Big Pictures. The Telugu and Tamil versions are running OK. Raavan is said to be the AAG of 2010.

2. Kites
Another Big-Wig production from the one and only Hrithik Roshan and the promising director Anurag Basu with a foreign heroine and exuberant locations, Kites has been expected to be the biggest movie of the industry. But the box-office deceived the crew. The movie bombed not only in the Indian box offices but also in foreign. Reliance Big Pictures sold the satellite rights to the Colours channel and they aired the movie after 36 days of its world-wide release.

3. Blue
A multi-starrer effort from the director Antony D’Souza, and a budget of whoopee 100 crores, the movie did the business for around 60 crores. AR Rahman’s music was a plus point but the total attire of the movie was not impressive. The two-piece hot shots from Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta gave a lot of expectations but all went in vein.

4. Delhi 6
Another big movie from the director of an iconic movie ‘Rang de Basanti,’ proved to be a dud in box-office. Though it got huge numbers in the opening week, it could not keep the collection and it diminishes as the week progress. Critics gave good reception but the slow-pace of the movie kept it as a noble failure.

5. Chandni Chowk to China
The film from the trusted director for flop films, Nikhil Advani done it again after his multi starred flop, Salaam-e-ishq. Chandni Chowk to China CC2C has become the flop no.1 of 2009. Akshay Kumar ended his golden-run of hit parade with this movie. It did pathetic business across the country.

6. Rann
Rann had almost everything in its favour for a decent box-office hit but the audience had rejected the film outright. The opening weekend combined collection was pathetic 25-30%. The controversy around the teaser of the film and the star cast of Amitabh Bachan and the ‘Sarkar’ model film making, nothing helped for the success of the movie.

7. Veer
The movie with lot of ingredients for a perfect hit, Veer – the Salman Khan effect, Anil Sharma’s direction and a periodical-epical subject, the trade had expected hugely from the movie. The movie sustained a steady collection in the first week but collection declined in the week followed and proved to be a one of the big flop of 2010.

8. Bumm Bumm Bole
From the hit[re]maker Priyadarshan and the ‘Taare Zameen Par’ wiz-kid Darsheel, the expectations were sky-high. Priyan this time came with the re-making of an Iranian movie ‘The Children of Heaven’, and he once again proved that ‘pickle is no match for salt.’ The movie was such a disappointing experience for who had seen the original and for who had not seen the original. The movie has been proven as a disaster though its been a low-cost movie.

9. Aag
This one is a landmark or a milestone in the history of planned flop making. I felt this movie will be in all the flop counting list and it will be in the all-time flops history. Filmed by Ram Gopal Varma and touted as the remake of the greatest hit of bollywood Sholay, became the greatest flop of Bollyood history.

10. Tashan
The big-budget movie from Yash Raj Films got a grant opening in the box-office because of ensemble star cast. But the critics cold-shouldered the movie and the IPL hungama also attributed its part for the failure. The movie ended as the biggest flop of 2008.
