Jobseekers in Canada will find a job more fast if their names sound British than people with names of Indian, Pakistan or Chinese origin, according to a recent study.
The study was conducted by the researchers by sending 6,000 fake resumes to small and mid-sized employers advertising jobs in Toronto.
Among the fake applicants, employers contacted 16 percent of those with English-sounding names, such as Jill Wilson or John Martin. Only 11 percent of applicants with Asian-sounding names, such as Rajan Pillai, Sana Khan or Lei Li, were called back, as per the study.
It suggests that Canadians and immigrants with non-English names face discrimination by employers.

Uniform Timings for film shows will be made in all theatres across Bangalore from May 22. As per the new order the first show will start at 11.45 a.m., second at 2.30 p.m., third at 6.15 p.m. and the last show at 8.30 p.m.

Bollywood star Aamir Khan will act opposite to Hollywood beauty Kate Winslet in the next movie of Pan Nalin, director of Valley of Flowers.The film will be based on the short story Toba Tek Singh by Saadat Hassan Manto, which deals with a mental asylum in Lahore in 1947, around the time of Partition.

Noted South Indian actress Karthika (Lidiya) married Merin Mathew Thevalakara, medical officer at Blue Mount hospital in Michigan, US yesterday at St Mary’s Orthodox Church.Karthika, debuted in Malayalam film industry with Oomappenninu Uriyada Payyan directed by Vinayan in a supporting role.

The audio of Kanthasamy, the latest movie by Vikram was launched at Chennai Trade Center on May 17, 2009. Villages were adopted by the Kanthasamy team during the function.The music of the movie is composed by noted south indian music director Devi Sri Prasad. For the fist time in history, both Bombay Stock Exchange and Nifty hit the upper circuit. The trading has been halted at the exchanges for the time being.
The NSE Nifty was up bu 531.65 points (14.48%) at 4,203.30 and the BSE Sensex surged 1,789.88 points (14.70%) to 13,963.30. The BSE hit 13479, up 1306 points from its previous close, and Nifty hit 4203, up 532 points.

Legendary Bollywood film producer and director Prakash Mehra died following bad health conditions. Prakash Mehra was in serious condition in the ICU of Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital for the past days, Planet bollywood reports
The first film of Prakash Mehra as director was Shashi Kapoor starrer Haseena Maan Jayegi in 1968. He later directed blockbusters Mela starring Feroz Khan and Sanjay Khan, Zanjeer starring Amitabh Bachchan etc. Mehra gave Amitabh Bachchan his biggest hits in Bollywood like 'Zanjeer', 'Sharaabi', 'Namak Halaal', 'Laawaris' and the biggest of them all, 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar', etc.
His last directorial venture was Bal Brahmachari featuring Puru Raajkumar which did not do good in box office.
