The Supreme Court of India rejected the plea of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt for allowing him to contest the forthcoming Lok sabha elections. Dutt was convicted for ”serious offence” under the Arms Act by a Mumbai TADA Court connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
Dutt was the Samajwadi Party candidate from the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat.

State of Bank of India (SBI) Mutual fund has launched its gold exchanged traded fund Gold ETF. The SBI Gold ETF is the sixth exchange traded fund to be launched in India.
The SBI Gold ETF will be open up for subscription till April 28. The fund will also be listed on india's National Stock Exchange later.
The newly launched fund, a joint venture between State Bank of India and France's Societe Generale Asset Management plans to raisse an amount of 1.5 billion to 2.0 billion rupees.
Benchmark Asset Management, UTI Mutual Fund, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund, Reliance Capital Asset Management and Quantum Mutual Fund are the other Gold ETF fund houses in India.

Senior Akali Dal leader and Punjab’s Cooperation Minister Kanwaljit Singh was killed in a road accident in Mohali district yesterday.
The accident involved the car of Mr. Kanwaljit Singh and two trucks near Landran town in Mohali district. He was soon taken to the PGIMER but surrendered to death there.
The minister was busy with election campaigning for the last two weeks. Singh, a former army captain was a representative from the Banur constituency, Punjab assembly four times.

Customers can withdraw money from any ATM counters of any banks from April 1, 2009 onwards without any service charges. Reserve Bank of India has directed all banks in India to waive the ATM fee for cash withdrawals using ATM and debit cards issued by other banks.
At present, banks charge Rs 20 per transaction when a customer uses the cash machine of any bank other than those of the account holder.
As per the statistics of the RBI in December 2007, there were 32,342 ATMs in India out of which State Bank and subsidiaries had 11, 350. Private banks ICICI and Axis bank had 4600 and 3570 respectively.
