A student of class 10 allegedly shot at and injured his class teacher at Red Rose School, Lucknow today, reports TOI

The student, son of a Railway official was scolded by the teacher for not wearing the school uniform. The student inturn returned with a pistol from home and fired at the teacher.

Akhilesh Mishra, the class teacher was immediately admitted in the local hospital and is normal now.

This is the first satellite in the country developed by a university.

ANUSAT, the micro satellite developed by Anna University, Chennai, will be launched during the month of April from Sriharikota.

Anusat which weighs 35 kgs, would help Anna University to conduct leak-free examinations in all its affiliated colleges. The question papers and information of the University can be passed from one centre to the other under a highly secure line via the satellite.

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur are also in the process of developing micro satellites.

The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has announced a hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for the Central government employees.

The hike of 6 per cent has been announced which will make the new DA rates to 22 per cent.

The new rates will be applicable from January 2009.

The decision will benefit 5 million employees, and 3.8 million pensioners in the central goverment service.

West Bengal Government has announced the implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission with alterations to the ten lakh government employees in West Bengal.

The new pay will be effective from April 1 2009.

The new pay revision will incur an additional expenditure of about Rs 5,700 crore annually to the government

The Indian Government today provided a massive Rs 30,000-crore boost to the slowing economy by slashing the central excise duty and service tax rates by 2 percentage points each.

The Central excise duty stands reduced from 10 to 8 per cent while the service tax has been brought down from 12 to 10 per cent.

Users signed in to Google talk will gete a link (TinyURL) which directs to a ViddyHo login page. This page will ask for your Google Login details and steals the user name and password which inturn is used to send the invitation to the people in their address book.

The American girl band, the Pussycat Dolls, will release the remix of the Oscar winning song "Jai Ho" of the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

The video of the Pussycat Dolls remix will be picturised at a station in Vienna, Austria, with lead singer Nicole Scherzinger singing the English lyrics of the song.

The audio of the song was recorded in London and Nicole and Rahman corresponded over video.

Comet Lulin, popularly known as green comet will be seen closest to the earth on February 24, 2009.

The green comet discovered by a meteorology undergraduate student at China's Sun Yat-Sen University, was first photographed at the Lulin Observatory, Taiwan and hence its name. This is the first time the comet makes its appearance to the inner solar system.

The comet makes its closest approach to Earth (0.41 AU) on Feb. 24, 2009. Current estimates peg the maximum brightness at 4th or 5th magnitude, which means dark country skies would be required to see it.
