Tata motors will start accepting booking for its much hyped new car Tata Nano from February onwards.
Customers can book the Nano for Rs. 70,000/- which will be a 70% of the earlier announced price of Nano. However the final on road price is not announced yet.
Booking of the car will be made available through the State bank branches of India. Tata Motors has signed an agreement with State Bank of India, which has the most number of branches in India for implementing the booking.
Tata motors expects to get a preliminary booking of one lakh cars, but delivery of these cars will be made only months later. However reports say that first hundred cars will be supplied to those who booked via a lottery system.

The latest issue of the Nature journal reports that the world's largest snake named Titanoboa cerrejonensis (meaning 'titanic boa from Cerrejon' ) was discovered in Cerrejon, north easten Colombia.
The fossilised remains of the world’s largest snake, lived 58 to 60 million years ago was about 13 metres long and weighed more than a ton.
The snake identified as a relative of the modern boa constrictors, is double the size of pythons and anacondas which are currently regarded as largest snakes.

The Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan has announced to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission in the state.

The NDTV-Toyota Greenathon is an effort to save the planet, which will feature a 24 hours of extensive clean up drives across the country, movie screenings, music concerts and other steps towards a Greener tomorrow.

Shares of DLF were down 12.73 percent to 154.65 rupees in afternoon trade.

Jitender Kumar Mohala, a 42-year-old chartered accountant from Dwarka and son of a retired Air Force commodore was behind the Indigo Airlines E664 hijack drama held on IGI airport at New Delhi on February 1, 2009.
Mohala was arrested and sent to custody for 14 days for creating a hijack scare in the airline. Doctors has said that the person could be suffering frustration aggression syndrome.
The other two persons detained Sameer Uppal and Harmeet Anand were released earlier since they had no relation with the incident.

The Indian Premier League today announced a final list of 114 interested world cricketers for the second player auction to be held at Goa on February 6th 2009. State Bank of India has announced the lowest interest rates on new home loans at eight per cent from the bank for the next one year.
The new scheme will be available on loans taken during February 2 and April 30.
Existing customers of SBI who have already taken a loan under the interest rate of 8.5% for a Rs 5 lakh loan and 9.25% for a Rs 20 lakh loan, will also benefit under the new offer.
For existing home loan customers, the bank has introduced a new multipurpose loan product, ‘SBI Lifestyle Loan’, whereby they can borrow to the extent of 10 per cent of their home loan up to a maximum of Rs 5 lakh at an interest rate of 8 per cent per annum for a period of one year.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) will shortly come out with a comprehensive database on policyholders and claim settlement records to guide insurance companies in designing better products, IRDA chairman J. Hari Narayan said at Chennai.
The initially access to the database, expected to be finalised in the next few months, would be given to the insurance and health sectors. At a later stage, it would be available for the public.

The Indigo Airlines E 664 flight coming to Delhi from Goa made an emergency landing at 5.15 pm yesterday at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday afternoon after the pilot reported suspected hijackers on board after some passengers behaved suspiciously.
The aircraft landed and taken charged by CISF and NSG commandos immediately.
All the 163 passengers and six crew members are safe now and three passengers were taken in for interrogation.

The Tamil nadu government has banned the bandh called by Sri Lankan Tamil Protection Movement on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue on February 4 (Independence Day of Srilanka) and termed it as illegal.
The government authorities has assured the people that all steps to uphold law and order on that day will be taken.
Steps are taken against the bandh based on the Supreme Court directions.

The details of the device was announced at the inauguration of the national Mission on Education Programme organized by the Union HRD Ministry at Tirupathi, India
Earlier this was reported as a low cost laptop for Rs. 500/- (10$).
The device is developed by students from Vellore Institute of Technology, scientists in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and IIT-Madras with the help of Semiconductor Complex.
This device is likely to be called Sakshat and will be launched through National Mission on Education.
