Noted artist and Padma Bhushan awardee Tyeb Mehta 84, died today 2nd July 2009 in Mumbai due to cardiac ailments. Tyeb Mehta holds the record for the highest price an Indian painting has ever sold in a public auction. View Paintings>>


Mehra was born in Gujarat in 1925 and is an alumni of Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai. He is survived by his wife Sakina, a son and a daughter.

Tyeb Mehta holds the record for the highest price an Indian painting has ever sold in a public auction (15 million rupees) for his painting 'Celebration' in 2002. His other noted painting include 'Kali', 'Mahishasura' , Gesture etc.
