Tomoji Tanabe, 113, the world's oldest man dead

Tomoji Tanabe, the world's oldest man aged 113, died in Japan today. He was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest man when he was 111 years old.

Tanabe, who was born September 18, 1895, had eight children — five sons and three daughters. The former city land surveyor also had 25 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

As of 19 January 2009, Tanabe was the seventh-oldest validated person in the world and the third-oldest in Japan
