Liberhan Commission Report on Babri Masjid Demoliton submitted

The Liberhan Commission on the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid has submitted its report to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today.

The commission, formed on December 16, ten days after the demoliton of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992 took 17 years for submitting the report. The commission headed by Justice (retd) M.S. Liberhan, has finally submitted the report to the Prime minister in the presence of Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

The first deadline for submitting the reports by the commission was on March 16, 1993. In its 48 extensions and 400 sittings, the Commission recorded the statements of senior BJP leaders L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharathi, and then prime minister Narasimha Rao and chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh.

The Liberhan commission on Babri Masjid is regarded as India's longest serving Commission of Enquiry which cost the government 8 crores.
