The Nehru Trophy Boat Race on the Punnamda Lake, near Alappuzha, held on the second Saturday of August every year, is the most competitive and popular of the boat races. On the day of this fiercely fought boat race, the tranquil lake front is transformed into a sea of humanity with an estimated two lakh people, including tourists from abroad, coming to watch the event. For the people of each village in Kuttanad, a victory at this race for their village boat is something to be celebrated for months to come.
The major attraction of the boat race is the competition of snake boats chundanvallams or snake boats.Chundans (snake boats) are an impressive sight, measuring over 100 feet in length, with a raised prow. They were called snake boats by the former colonial rulers, who based the name on a native boat found in Norway,although Kerala's Chundans bear little resemblance to their European namesakes.

Nāga Panchamī (Sanskrit: नाग पंचमी) is a Hindu festival celebrated by Hindus in most parts of India. It is celebrated on Panchami in Shravan month. On this day, they worship Nāga Devata (Cobras). Cobras are considered divine in Hindu mythology. People go to temples and snake pits and they worship the snakes. They offer milk and silver jewelry to the Cobras to protect them from all evils. They also fast. This festival is to celebrate the day Lord Krishna defeated the serpent Kalia. On this day swings are put up in the village and people enjoy themselves. The married girls visit their parents during this occasion.
The festival of Nāga Panchami is celebrated by Hindus to pay respect to Nāgas. The five Nāgas worshipped on Nag Panchami are Ananta, Vāsuki, Taxak, Karkotaka and Pingala. According to a Puranic myth Brahma’s son Kashyapa had four wives. Kashyapa’s first wife gave birth to Devas, second to Garudas, third to Nāgas and fourth to Daityas. (Dainik Jagran, 25 July 2006). The third wife of Kashpa was called Kadroo, who gave birth to Nāgas. So Nāgas are also known as Kadroojā. They were the rulers of Pātāl-Loka. The festival of Nāga Panchami is celebrated by Hindus to pay respect to Nāgas. The five Nāgas worshipped on Nag Panchami are Ananta, Vāsuki, Taxak, Karkotaka and Pingala. According to a Puranic myth Brahma’s son Kashyapa had four wives. Kashyapa’s first wife gave birth to Devas, second to Garudas, third to Nāgas and fourth to Daityas. (Dainik Jagran, 25 July 2006). The third wife of Kashpa was called Kadroo, who gave birth to Nāgas. So Nāgas are also known as Kadroojā. They were the rulers of Pātāl-Loka. An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook a large area of southwestern China's Sichuan province

Lenovo today announced it is entering the “netbook” PC market with the new IdeaPad S10 netbook PC. Lenovo designed the super-slim, super-small IdeaPad S10 to complement a customer’s primary PC or as a first-time, introductory PC purchase. Seems that all the people of the earth has become the members of some social networks. Now it is the time for outerspace social networking. Bebo, owned by AOL is offering its users a service to send a message to outer space.
Users can send in messages from Aug 4 to Sep 30, and then the top 500 text and picture messages, as voted by Bebo users, will be transmitted into space on Oct 9.
An interstellar radio telescope of the Russian National Space Agency in Ukraine. will be used to transmit messages from Bebo users into space.
The messages are expected to reach Gliese 581c, a recently discovered planet in 2029.
The project, named A Message From Earth, involves Bebo, RDF Digital, a British televisionfirm, and Alexander Zaitsev, scientist at the Russian Academy of Science's Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics.

The car was unveiled by International car designer, Dilip Chhabria, in Bangalore.

BSNL has launchded WiMAX, is a third generation internet technology in Ahmedabad.
From mid-August, internet users in Ahmedabad can surf internet at higher speed from anywhere in the city.
BSNL is testing the wimax services in 10 cities in India including Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai.
WiMAX, the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless data in a variety of ways, from point-to-point links to full mobile cellular type access.

The incident occured as a result of falling of the railing guarding devotees against the cliff.
