World Laughter Day” was created in 1998 by Dr Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. The celebration of World Laughter Day is a positive manifestation for world peace and is intended to build up a global consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter. Its popularity has grown exponentially with that of the Laughter Yoga movement (now counting over 5000 Laughter Clubs worldwide on all 5 continents).

The first “World Laughter Day” gathering took place in Mumbai, India, on 11th of January 1998. 12,000 members from local and international Laughter Clubs joined together in a mega laughter session.

“HAPPY-DEMIC” was the first World Laughter Day gathering outside India. It took place on 9th January 2000 In Copenhagen, Denmark and more than 10,000 people gathered at Town Hall Square. The event went into Guinness Book of World records.

“World Laughter Day” is now organized on the first Sunday of May every year

More than 156 crore websites are available in the internet. Of this around 6 crores are regarded active. From these billions of websites drawing traffic in the form of users is not an easy task. According to Alexa, the web Information Company, Yahoo.com is the highest visited website from the visitors all over the world. Google, the immensely popular search engine ranks second. Live.com, Microsofts recently launched search engine follows. The popular video sharing option in the internet Youtube and MSN.com, the dialup and content provider of Microsoft comes in fourth and fifth places respectively
Considering the top 50 sites indexed by Alexa web traffic are drawn mostly by categories like Content & email providers, search engines, social networking, video, music & image sharing sites occupy the top rankings. Google and Live are the favorite search engines. Social networking sites which are the trendsetters in the web like My Space, Facebook, Hi5, Orkut and Friendster occupy the first 25 positions. Youtube is the pioneer in file sharing sites. File uploading and sharing sites like Rapid share and Mega upload follows. Content & Email providers are headed by Yahoo and MSN where as Wikipedia, the largest encyclopedia on web has its own position in the top. Blogs which was a sensation in the past years have lessened their presence mostly due to the increasing social networking sites which offer blogs too. But Blogger, a Google undertaking still remains at the top 25.

The website traffic in India is somewhat different from the global scenario. Even though Yahoo remains in the top position, Google India, and Google Search which occupies the second and third position shows how much the Indians rely on search engines especially Google for their internet needs. The market share of Google increases more with Orkut.com which comes next. It is interesting to note that the global leaders in social networking like Myspace and Facebook does not come under the first 10 ranks. Also Indians are also passionate about an Indian owned domain. This is none other than Rediff India, which has been our answer to Yahoo and MSN over the years and ranks fifth. The global favorites like Blogger, Youtube, Live , Wikipedia etc occupy top positions. A trend different from the other part of the world is that Indian users spend more time on job portals (Naukri, Monster) and in financial sites (Money control, ICIC bank, BSE etc), the reason for this is may be that we are famous for our ever-increasing unemployment and poverty. The Online music provider Raaga.com and Internet Movie Database (imdb) and the greeting site 123gretings.com also finds place in the Indians users which shows how much the entertainment industry can perform in our country. Two government owned sites related to the Indian railways compete for the top ranks with these private counterparts. Another notable feature in the Indian internet scenario is the wide occurrence of Masala sites like the debonairblog, Masala talk, freesexyindians, indiansexstories etc). Hopefully majority of them limits themselves to the masala pics from Movies.

Mahindra launches the Scorpio mHAWK with lots of features loaded into it. The new scorpio will feature mHawk CRDe engine, Anti-lock braking system, Cruise control, Intellipark (parking assistance), Tyretronics, intellighet headlamps and vipers which would activate on stimulation, audio controls on steering wheels etc

This car will provide parking assistance and tell you when the tyre pressure is low or your safety is compromised. Even the wipers and headlamps ooze technology.

Surely this would be trend setting launch and will make tge Scorpio far better than the competitiors like Toyota INNOVA, Chevrolet TAVERA etc

LOVE YOUR JOB, BUT NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR COMPANY BCOZ U NEVER KNOW WHEN COMPANY STOPS LOVING YOU -

Narayana Murthy

Extract of Mr. Narayana Murthy's Speech during Mentor Session:

I know people who work 12 hours a day, six days a week, or more. Some people do so because of a work emergency where the long hours are only temporary. Other people I know have put in these hours for years. I don't know if they are working all these hours, but I do know they are in the office this long. Others put in long office hours because they are addicted to the workplace. Whatever the reason for putting in overtime, working long hours over the long term is harmful to the person and to the organization.

There are things managers can do to change this for everyone's benefit.Being in the office long hours, over long periods of time, makes way for potential errors. My colleagues who are in the office long hours frequently make mistakes caused by fatigue. Correcting these mistakes requires their time as well as the time and energy of others.I have seen people work Tuesday through Friday to correct mistakes made after 5 PM on Monday.

Another problem is that people who are in the office for long hours are not pleasant company. They often complain about other people (who aren't working as hard); they are irritable, or cranky, or even angry. Other people avoid them.Such behaviour poses problems, where work goes much better when people work together instead of avoiding one another. As Managers, there are things we can do to help people leave the office.

First and foremost is to set the example and go home ourselves. I work with a manager who chides people for working long hours. His words quickly lose their meaning when he sends these chiding group e-mails with a Time-stamp of 2 AM, Sunday. Second is to encourage people to put some balance in their lives. For instance, here is a guideline I find helpful:

1) Wake up, eat a good breakfast, and go to work.

2) Work hard and smart for eight or nine hours.

3) Go home.

4) Read the comics, watch a funny movie, dig in the dirt, play with your kids, etc.

5) Eat well and sleep well.

This is called recreating. Doing steps 1, 3, 4, and 5 enable step 2.

Working regular hours and recreating daily are simple concepts. They are hard for some of us because that requires personal change. They are possible since we all have the power to choose to do them.In considering the issue of overtime, I am reminded of my eldest son. When he was a toddler, if people were visiting the apartment, he would not fall asleep no matter how long the visit, and no matter what time of day it was.! He would fight off sleep until the visitors left. It was as if he was afraid that he would miss something. Once our visitors' left, he would go to sleep.By this time, however, he was over tired and would scream through half the night with nightmares. He, my wife, and I, all paid the price for his fear of missing out. Perhaps some people put in such long hours because they don't want to miss anything when they leave the office. The trouble with this is that events will never stop happening. That is life !

Things happen 24 hours a day. Allowing for little rest is not ultimately practical. So, take a nap.Things will happen while you're asleep, but you will have the energy to catch up when you wake. Hence.

"LOVE YOUR JOB BUT NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR COMPANY" .
